Benton County Young Farmers
Benton County's Young Farmer programs is made up of people who are between the ages 18-35 and either farm or work in ag related jobs.  They meet to exchange ideas throughout the year while also incorporating work and play in the promotion of agriculture in our county, district and state.

Members in the 18-35 year range are eligible for competitions held at the state level  during Indiana Farm Bureau State Convention.  These competitions include discussion meets, and two achievement awards:

Young Farmers' Achievement Award~ for those whose lives are totally involved
in farming.
Young Farmers' Excellence in Ag. Award~ for those whose main income comes
from a job off the farm and are involved in
an ag business on the side.

Benton County Young Farmers are a part of the District 3 Young Farmers. Each year District 3 teams up with District 1 YFs for a road trip to a neighboring state.  Cost is usually around $100.00 per person, which includes lodging, entrance to attractions and points of interest, and most meals.  Benton County Farm Bureau helps with this expense, so keep an eye out for this year's destination.

Benton County Young Farmers is always looking to add to its membership.  We encourage all residents of age to join in the experience.  It promises to provide new friends, new lessons, and new ideas chances for experiences for all who participate.
Carrie Buck presents a check for $600.00 to Norma Higley for the Fowler Food Pantry.  Young Farmers have a traveling Piggy Bank that goes to areas businesses to gather money for Second Harvest, part of the IFB State Young Farmers' pet projects.

Trip to the Millennium Farms Pumkin Patch
Several families headed out to our local pumpkin patch in search of the perfect pumpkin!  Many daddies were able to come along with harvest moving along at a much quicker pace than last year.  We had a great hayride out to the patch, all the kiddies found their perfect pumpkin, and then we came back for a picnic and time to play on all the fun, interactive stations Millennium Farms offers, including a petting zoo and haybale maze.  Thanks to the Schakels for having us!  A fantastic, fun, family time was had by all!
Fun at the Bowling Alley with District 3 Young Farmers
Five families took a break from all the snow and cold to go inside and Have some fun at the Arrowhead Bowling Alley in Lafayette.  This event, sponsored by District Three Young Farmers, brought families from all eight counties out to test their skill on the lanes.  The consensus was that we have all been spoiled by Wii bowling!  That is so much easier and the ball is much lighter than the real thing.

After two hours of rolling for spares, we gathered for pizza and conversation.  Thank you to all who helped organize the day.!
